The whole journey, honestly laid out — first call, free survey, written quote, the work, and the guarantee in your hand.
Last updated: August 2026
It starts with a phone call to 0140 358 1272 or the callback form on any page of this site — name, number, postcode, what needs doing, and when to call you. A local roofer rings you back within two hours during working hours, not a call centre reading a script. That first conversation does real work: an experienced roofer can tell from your description whether this sounds like a slipped tile, a flashing failure or something bigger, whether it is urgent, and roughly what band of cost you are looking at — before anyone has climbed anything.
If water is actively coming in, we skip the queue: emergency triage on the phone, make-safe attendance the same day, and the survey happens alongside the tarpaulin going on. For everything else, we book the survey at a time that suits you — and you do not need to take a day off, because most external surveys need nothing from you but access to the outside of the house.
The survey is where Horsham’s housing stock actually matters. A pre-1930 clay-peg roof off the Causeway, a 1930s semi in Southgate, a 1960s concrete-tile estate house in Roffey and a 1990s Broadbridge Heath build all fail in different, predictable ways — and we look for the failure modes your era of house actually has. That means fixings and nail condition on older stock, ridge and verge mortar on post-war estates, felt condition in the loft where we can get to it, and the flashings and valleys where most “roof” leaks genuinely start.
We photograph what we find — drone where useful, ladder where necessary — and we show you the pictures. You should never be asked to pay for work on evidence you have not seen. There is no call-out fee and no survey charge in our covered area, and no obligation attached to either.
The quote arrives in writing, itemised line by line: labour, materials, access equipment, waste removal, and — where relevant — scaffold as its own visible line, never buried. If timber condition cannot be known until the roof is opened, the quote says so and states a rate for any remedial work, agreed before it happens rather than surprising you on the invoice.
Our payment terms are part of the quote and they are deliberately anti-rogue-trader: no deposit on repairs under £500, staged payments on larger works like re-roofs, and never money up front before materials are on site. If anyone — us or a competitor — asks for cash before a tile has been delivered, treat it as the warning sign it is. Our guide to choosing a roofer covers the full checklist.
Once you accept, we book the date and arrange everything the job needs: scaffold where the work requires sustained time at height, skip delivery timed to the strip, and any pavement or scaffold licences through Horsham District Council — which matters on tight streets like Park Street or the conservation frontages of the Causeway, where footway space is licensed and conditions apply. You do not chase any of that; it is our job and it is in the price.
Weather is the one thing nobody controls. Roof work is planned against the forecast honestly — we would rather move a strip day than open your roof with rain incoming — and if a date moves, you hear from us first, not last.
On the day, the team arrives when we said, protects what needs protecting — sheeting below the work area, boards over fragile surfaces, the garden covered where debris could reach it — and gets on with it. Fixings go in to BS 5534, the British Standard for slating and tiling, which since 2015 has meant mechanical fixing on ridges and verges rather than mortar alone. Lead goes in at Code 4 for flashings and Code 5 for valleys. These are the details that decide whether a roof lasts thirty years or ten, and they are not optional extras.
On re-roofs, we strip only what can be felted the same day, so the house is watertight every single night of the job regardless of the forecast. One worked example: a recent 3-bed 1930s semi re-roof off Comptons Lane ran eight working days — scaffold Monday, strip and felt through midweek, plain clay tiles matching the street by the second Friday, skip gone the following Monday.
The job is not finished when the last tile goes on. The site is cleared, paths swept, gutters cleaned of work debris, and on re-roofs the garden and drive are magnet-swept for nails — the difference between a professional finish and a summer of punctures. You walk the job with us, we show you photographs of anything you cannot see from the ground, and you get the paperwork: your 10-year written workmanship guarantee, transferable if you sell, plus manufacturer warranties on materials.
If a fault appears in work we have guaranteed, you call the same number and we come back and put it right — no quibbling, no re-charge, no argument about whose fault the weather was. Storm and impact damage sit with your insurer rather than any workmanship guarantee (that is true of every roofer’s guarantee, whatever the salesman implied), and if that happens we document the damage properly so your claim goes through cleanly. Read more in our repair or replace guide, or see roof repairs for the most common starting point.
No — surveys and quotes are free across Horsham and our covered RH12/RH13 area, with no call-out fee and no obligation. The quote you receive is written and itemised, in line with NFRC consumer guidance that written quotes before work are a homeowner’s strongest protection. The only exception is a formal pre-purchase survey report, which is a paid document — and its fee comes off any remedial work we later do.
Within two hours during working hours (8am–6pm, Mon–Sat), or at the time you choose on the form. Emergencies skip the queue entirely: phone triage immediately and same-day make-safe attendance, typically within two hours for active leaks. The callback form takes about 30 seconds — name, number, postcode, job type and best time — and it goes straight to a local roofer, not a call centre.
Repairs under £500: nothing until the job is done. Larger works: staged payments — typically scaffold-up, mid-point and completion on a re-roof — and never any money before materials are on site. This structure is deliberate: Trading Standards guidance flags large up-front cash demands as the classic rogue-trader pattern, so our terms are built to be the opposite of it.
We do, and it is itemised in your quote. Pavement scaffold and skip licences go through Horsham District Council, which matters on tight or conservation streets like the Causeway where footway space is controlled — allow a few working days for permits there. You never deal with the council, the scaffolder or the skip company yourself; coordinating access is part of what you are paying for.
Workmanship — the quality of what we installed — for 10 years, in writing, transferable if you sell the house. Manufacturer warranties on tiles, membranes and materials sit on top of it. It does not cover storm or impact damage, which is an insurance matter on any roof; if that happens we document the damage with photos and a written report so your insurer’s ABI-standard claim process goes smoothly.
On repairs, the opened area is sheeted watertight before we leave, every time. On re-roofs we only strip what can be felted the same day, so the house is never open overnight regardless of forecast — a discipline that matters in the Low Weald, where autumn rain arrives fast. If conditions make safe working impossible, the date moves and you hear from us first.
